Final Fantasy Resonance Demo

Quick Answer

The free demo covers the opening through Chapter 1, with an official 3–5 hour estimate and save carryover. Match your intended version: Switch and Switch 2 saves cannot move between editions.

The Final Fantasy Resonance demo is free, covers the opening through the end of Chapter 1, and lets you carry your save into the full game. Square Enix estimates about 3–5 hours for that opening adventure. The trial has level restrictions, so it is not an unrestricted version of the whole game. Square Enix’s demo announcement and the PS5 demo listing confirm the scope and carryover.

Choose the version you expect to continue playing before investing time in a save. In particular, the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 versions do not support transferring saves between each other.

Download the free demo for your platform

Square Enix released the demo for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Steam and Xbox on PC. Select the demo, rather than a paid Standard or Deluxe edition.

What Chapter 1 lets you try

This is the start of the main adventure, with its opening story, exploration and turn-based battles. The official store description says you can explore the entire first chapter as it appears in the full version, subject to the demo’s level restrictions. It is useful for deciding whether the presentation and combat suit you before continuing further.

The demo covers the opening through the end of Chapter 1.

You can sample the early party and Vision system, visit towns and explore away from the main objective. Those detours make the trial more than a short combat showcase, but the endpoint remains the end of Chapter 1. A full-game trailer or store description showing later challenges does not mean those challenges are part of the demo.

For a first session, follow the story until you understand the battle menus and have tried the early customization options. Explore further if you enjoy that loop; completing every optional activity is a personal choice, not a condition stated in the official save-carryover announcement.

Allow roughly 3–5 hours for the main sample

The 3–5 hour figure is Square Enix’s estimate, not a countdown or a guaranteed completion time. Reading dialogue, learning combat and taking optional detours change how long you spend in Chapter 1. Finishing outside that range does not by itself mean you missed a required part of the trial.

Treat that estimate as a way to plan a session. You do not need to match another player’s time or finish an exhaustive checklist simply to decide whether to continue with the game. The demo’s chapter boundary and its growth restrictions are separate limits: more time spent exploring does not unlock the later chapters inside the trial.

Preserve your save and match the version

Save carryover is confirmed by Square Enix and both console demo listings. Preserve your demo save data if you want to continue that progress in the full game. The official announcement does not provide a platform-by-platform import menu sequence, so the precise prompts are not reproduced here.

The important version boundary is on Nintendo: the Switch 2 product page says saves cannot be transferred between the Switch and Switch 2 versions. If you plan to buy the Switch 2 edition, start with that edition’s demo rather than building a Switch save and expecting it to move across.

For other platforms, demo-to-full-game carryover should not be read as a promise of transfers between different storefronts or console families. Use the matching version for your intended purchase and keep the original save until your continued progress is available in the full game.
